  2. 2Add image URLs (one per line), the author and publisher, and the publication and update dates in ISO 8601 format such as 2026-10-14.
  3. 3Fix anything flagged in red, review the suggestions, then copy the JSON-LD into the page or download it.

What is the Article Schema Generator?

Article structured data tells search engines the headline, author, images and dates of a piece of writing. Google’s documentation lists no strictly required properties for Article, but recommends headline, image, datePublished, dateModified and author — with the author’s name and, ideally, a URL to their profile — because these appear in search features and help attribute the content.

Dates must be ISO 8601: a date such as 2026-10-14, or a date and time with a time zone such as 2026-10-14T09:30:00+02:00. Images should be full https URLs; Google recommends several high-resolution images in 16:9, 4:3 and 1:1, each at least 50,000 pixels (width × height). The generator leaves out empty fields rather than writing empty strings, which validators would flag.

Frequently asked questions

Should I use Article, BlogPosting or NewsArticle?

BlogPosting for blog posts, NewsArticle for news reporting and Article for everything else. BlogPosting and NewsArticle are more specific kinds of Article, so search engines treat all three alike.

Which date format is required?

ISO 8601. Use YYYY-MM-DD, or add a time and time zone (2026-10-14T09:30:00+02:00). Formats like 14/10/2026 are ambiguous and are rejected.

Does the headline have to match the page title?

It should match the visible headline of the article. Keep it concise; very long headlines may be truncated in search features.

Is the Article Schema Generator free and private?

Yes. The Article Schema Generator is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. What you type is never sent to a server or stored.
