What is the Favicon Generator?

Browsers still look for /favicon.ico, and the ICO format can hold several sizes in one file — this one contains 16, 32 and 48 px versions. Phones use the 180 px Apple touch icon and the 192 and 512 px Android icons referenced in site.webmanifest.

Fine detail disappears at 16 × 16 pixels, so simple logos, a single letter or a bold symbol work best. Check the 16 px preview before you download.

Which favicon sizes do I need?

Why is the Apple icon not transparent?

iOS fills transparent areas of touch icons with black, so the Apple icon always uses your background colour.
