How to use the Image to Base64

  1. 1Choose an image.
  2. 2Copy the Base64 string, the full data URI, or a ready-made HTML/CSS snippet.

What is the Image to Base64?

Base64 encodes binary data as text. A data URI (data:image/png;base64,…) lets you embed small images directly in code, saving an HTTP request. Base64 is about 33% larger than the original file, so it is best for small icons and images.

Frequently asked questions

Should I inline large images as Base64?

Usually not. Inlining makes HTML and CSS larger and prevents the browser from caching the image separately. Use it for small icons (a few KB).

Is the Image to Base64 free and private?

Yes. The Image to Base64 is free, needs no account, and processes your files entirely in your browser. Files are never uploaded to a server or stored.
