Good to know: Voices come from your browser and operating system, so the selection differs between devices. Voices marked “online” are provided by your browser vendor and send the text to their service; on-device voices work fully offline.

  2. 2Choose a voice and adjust speed and pitch.
  3. 3Press Play; use Pause, Resume and Stop as needed.

What is the Text to Speech?

The tool uses the Web Speech API built into modern browsers. Most systems include several on-device voices; Chrome and Edge also offer higher-quality online voices.

Listening is a good way to proofread: hearing a sentence makes missing words and awkward phrasing much easier to notice.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download the audio as an MP3?

Browsers do not expose the synthesized audio to web pages, so it can be played but not saved as a file.

Why are there no voices?

Some browsers load voices a moment after the page opens, and some Linux systems ship without any. Reload the page or install a speech engine.

Is the Text to Speech free and private?

Yes. The Text to Speech is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. What you type is never sent to a server or stored.
