Duplicate Word Finder
Find words typed twice in a row — “the the”, “and and” — even across line breaks, highlighted in your text with previous and next navigation. Legitimate doubles such as “had had” are skipped unless you ask, and you can remove all repeats in one click.
This tool runs entirely in your browser.
How to use the Duplicate Word Finder
- 1Paste your text. Repeated words are highlighted straight away and counted above the text.
- 2Use Previous and Next to jump between them, and read each in context.
- 3Fix them by hand, or press “Remove all repeats” and copy the corrected text.
What is the Duplicate Word Finder?
A doubled word is one of the most common typos and one of the hardest to see, because the brain skips the repeat — especially when the two words are split across a line break. Spell checkers often miss it because both words are spelled correctly.
The finder flags a word immediately repeated with only spaces or a line break in between, ignoring capitalisation (“The the”). It doesn’t flag words separated by punctuation (“Well, well”) or numbers, and by default it skips doubles that are often correct in English, such as “had had”, “that that” and “very very”. Turn on the stricter option to see those too.
In-depth guide
How to Find Repeated Words Like "the the" Before Anyone Else Does →Frequently asked questions
Does it find repeated words across line breaks?
Yes — that’s where they hide most often. A word at the end of one line and the same word at the start of the next is flagged.
Why isn’t “had had” flagged?
Because it is often correct (“She had had enough”). Tick the stricter option to include it and similar doubles such as “that that”.
Does it work in other languages?
Yes, for languages that separate words with spaces. Chinese and Japanese text is skipped because repeated characters are normal there.
Is the Duplicate Word Finder free and private?
Yes. The Duplicate Word Finder is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. What you type is never sent to a server or stored.
