How to use the Passphrase Generator
- 1Choose how many words (5 or more recommended).
- 2Pick a separator and whether to capitalise or add a number.
- 3Generate and copy.
What is the Passphrase Generator?
Passphrases follow the Diceware idea: each randomly chosen word adds log2(list size) bits of entropy. Because words are chosen randomly — not by you — the result is strong even though it is easy to remember.
Frequently asked questions
Are passphrases as secure as random passwords?
Yes, at equal entropy. Six random words from this list give roughly 60 bits; add a seventh word for more.
Is the Passphrase Generator free and private?
Yes. The Passphrase Generator is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. What you type is never sent to a server or stored.
