What is the HEIC to JPG?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones since iOS 11. It stores photos at roughly half the size of JPG, but Windows, many Android apps and lots of websites still cannot open it.

Safari can decode HEIC natively; in other browsers this tool loads a small HEIC decoder on demand. Either way the decoding happens on your device. Converting to JPG re-encodes the photo; choose 90%+ quality to keep it visually identical.

Frequently asked questions

Why can’t I open HEIC files on Windows?

Windows needs an extra codec from the Microsoft Store to read HEIC. Converting to JPG avoids the codec entirely and works in every app.

Does converting HEIC to JPG keep the photo location data?

No. The browser re-encodes the pixels, so EXIF metadata such as GPS location is not copied into the JPG — handy before sharing.

Can I stop my iPhone from saving HEIC?

Yes: Settings → Camera → Formats → “Most Compatible” makes the camera save JPG instead.

Is the HEIC to JPG free and private?

Yes. The HEIC to JPG is free, needs no account, and processes your files entirely in your browser. Files are never uploaded to a server or stored.
