This tool runs entirely in your browser.

- 2Pick formatting options (uppercase, hyphens, braces).
- 3Click Generate, then copy or download.
What is the UUID Generator?
A UUID (universally unique identifier, also called GUID) is a 128-bit identifier. Version 4 is fully random; version 7 starts with a timestamp, so new IDs sort in creation order — which keeps database indexes efficient.
Frequently asked questions
Can two UUIDs collide?
In practice, no. A v4 UUID has 122 random bits; generating a billion per second for 85 years gives roughly a 50% chance of a single collision.
Should I use v4 or v7?
Use v7 for database primary keys (sortable and index-friendly); use v4 when the ID must not reveal when it was created.
Is the UUID Generator free and private?
Yes. The UUID Generator is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. What you type is never sent to a server or stored.
