What is the Fraction Calculator?
To add or subtract, the fractions are rewritten over their least common denominator; to multiply, tops and bottoms are multiplied; to divide, you multiply by the reciprocal. Every result is reduced by the greatest common divisor, so 6/8 becomes 3/4.
Decimals are converted exactly (0.75 → 3/4), and the arithmetic uses whole-number maths without rounding, so even large fractions stay exact.
Frequently asked questions
How do I enter a mixed number?
Put a space between the whole number and the fraction: 2 3/8. A minus sign in front makes the whole value negative: -2 3/8.
Can I enter decimals?
Yes. 0.25 is read as 1/4 and 1.5 as 3/2, so you can mix decimals and fractions.
