What is the Torque Converter?

Torque is a turning force: force times the distance from the axis. 1 lbf·ft = 1.3558 N·m, and 1 kgf·m = 9.80665 N·m. A pound-foot and a foot-pound are the same quantity; engineers write lb·ft for torque to tell it apart from the energy unit.

Wheel nuts on a typical car are tightened to 100–140 N·m (74–103 lb·ft); small screws and bike parts are specified in N·m or lb·in, where 12 lb·in make 1 lb·ft.

Results show up to 10 significant digits; very large or small values switch to scientific notation.
