Binary to Text Converter

Paste binary code — 8-bit groups like 01001000 01101001 — and read the text. UTF-8 is supported, so emoji and accented letters decode correctly.

This tool runs entirely in your browser.

What is the Text to Binary Converter?

Computers store text as bytes. The text is first encoded as UTF-8 — one byte for each basic Latin letter (H = 72 = 01001000), two for accented letters like é (11000011 10101001) and four for most emoji — and each byte is then written as eight binary digits. The same bytes can be shown as hex (48 69), decimal (72 105) or octal.

When decoding, each space-separated group is read as one byte (so 7-bit ASCII groups work too), and the result must be valid UTF-8 — otherwise the tool says so instead of printing garbage. Binary without spaces is split into 8-bit groups automatically and must be a multiple of 8 digits long.

Frequently asked questions

What is “hello” in binary?

01101000 01100101 01101100 01101100 01101111 — one 8-bit byte per letter in UTF-8 (and ASCII).

Why does an emoji become 32 bits?

Emoji are outside the basic range, so UTF-8 uses four bytes for them — four groups of eight bits.

Is the Text to Binary Converter free and private?

Yes. The Text to Binary Converter is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. What you type is never sent to a server or stored.
