ASCII Table
The complete ASCII table: all 128 characters with decimal, hexadecimal, octal and binary values, HTML codes and names, with the 33 control characters such as NUL, TAB, LF, CR, ESC and DEL clearly labelled. Search by character, number or name and click any value to copy it.
This tool runs entirely in your browser.
How to use the ASCII Table
- 1Search for a character (A), a decimal (65), a hex value (0x41) or a name (escape, tab).
- 2Switch between all 128 codes, the control characters and the printable ones.
- 3Click any value in the table to copy it, or click a name for every representation.
What is the ASCII Table?
ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange) assigns the numbers 0–127 to English letters, digits, punctuation and 33 control codes. It fits in 7 bits, and the first 128 Unicode code points are identical to it, which is why ASCII text is also valid UTF-8.
Codes 0–31 and 127 are control characters from the teleprinter era. A few still matter: 9 is TAB, 10 is LF (the line ending on Linux and macOS), 13 is CR (Windows ends lines with CR + LF), 27 is ESC (start of terminal colour codes) and 0 is NUL, the string terminator in C. Handy patterns: uppercase letters start at 65 and lowercase at 97, exactly 32 apart.
Frequently asked questions
What is the ASCII code for A?
65 in decimal, 0x41 in hex, 101 in octal and 1000001 in binary. Lowercase a is 97 (0x61).
Is ASCII the same as Unicode?
ASCII is the first 128 code points of Unicode. Unicode extends it to over 150,000 characters, including accented letters, other scripts and emoji.
What is “extended ASCII”?
Several different 8-bit code pages (such as Windows-1252 and ISO-8859-1) that use 128–255 for extra characters. They are not part of ASCII itself and disagree with each other, which is why UTF-8 replaced them.
Is the ASCII Table free and private?
Yes. The ASCII Table is free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser. What you type is never sent to a server or stored.
