Corner or Tiled Watermark? How to Choose One for Your Photos

ยท 4 min read

Pick the watermark by what you're protecting. For finished work you're proud to share, a small credit in a corner at around 40โ€“50% opacity keeps your name attached without spoiling the picture. For proofs, previews and anything you'd rather people didn't reuse, a faint tiled pattern across the whole image is far harder to crop out. Then choose text or logo based on whether people should remember your name or your brand mark.

This guide walks through those decisions in order, with the settings to use in Emojar's Watermark Image tool.

Decision 1: What is the watermark for?

Goal Style Suggested settings
Credit on photos you post publicly Corner Text, Size 3โ€“5%, Opacity 40โ€“60%
Brand consistency across a feed Corner Logo, bottom corner, Opacity 50โ€“70%
Client proofs before payment Tiled Text or logo, Opacity 20โ€“35%, Spacing 2โ€“3ร—
Previews of images you sell Tiled Logo or name, Opacity 25โ€“40%, rotated
Internal drafts Corner/tiled "DRAFT", larger size, Opacity 30โ€“50%

The trade-off is simple. A corner mark respects the photo but can be cropped off in seconds. A tiled mark survives cropping, but it changes how the image looks. Use it when protection matters more than presentation.

Text is the fastest option. The tool opens with ยฉ 2026 Your Name filled in (the current year), in bold white sans-serif at 4% size and 45% opacity, in the bottom-right corner. Edit the line, add a second line with Enter, and choose from five fonts. Text works well for photographers and artists whose name is the brand.

Logo image suits businesses and studios. Upload a PNG with a transparent background. A logo on a white or colored rectangle looks like a sticker slapped on the photo, while a transparent one blends in.

One detail is worth knowing: the Size slider means slightly different things for each type. For text, it sets the font size as a percentage of the image width. For a logo, the logo's width is three times that percentage, so a Size of 4% gives a logo about 12% of the image width. If you switch from text to logo and the mark suddenly looks huge, that's why. Turn the size down.

Decision 3: Corner or tiled?

For a corner mark, click one of the nine squares under Position. The tool keeps a small margin from the edge, a fixed 3% of the image's shorter side, so the mark never touches the border. Bottom-right is the most common choice, the same spot where painters traditionally sign.

For a tiled mark, switch on Repeat across the whole image (tiled). The mark repeats in a staggered grid that still reaches the corners after rotation, and the position grid is replaced by a Spacing slider from 1.2ร— to 5ร— the mark size. If rotation is still at 0ยฐ, it changes to โˆ’30ยฐ automatically, giving the familiar diagonal pattern. At 1.2ร—, the marks almost touch. At 3ร— and above you get a lighter, more elegant pattern.

Decision 4: How visible should it be?

Opacity runs from 5% to 100%. Some rough guidance:

  • 20โ€“35%: subtle; good for tiled patterns, where the number of repeats does the protecting.
  • 40โ€“60%: clearly readable as a credit without drawing the eye away from the subject.
  • 70โ€“100%: for draft stamps or marks that must be impossible to miss.

Text marks use a soft shadow by default, which keeps white text legible on most photos. On bright, busy scenes such as snow or white sand, switch on Outline instead. Rotation is available for both styles, from โˆ’90ยฐ to 90ยฐ.

Watermarking a whole shoot in one batch

Add up to 50 photos in total, in one go or with + Add images. The same settings apply to every image, and the preview shows the first one with a note of how many will be exported. Click Download N images (ZIP) to get watermarked.zip, with each file named like IMG_2041-watermarked.jpg. PNG and WebP files keep their format; others are saved as JPG at 92% quality.

Mixed orientations need one extra check. Size scales with image width, so a 4% text mark gets a 240 px font on a 6000 ร— 4000 landscape photo but only 160 px on a 4000 ร— 6000 portrait one. If a batch mixes both, look at a portrait image before exporting, or watermark landscape and portrait shots as two batches.

Everything runs locally in your browser, so client photos are never uploaded. Your originals are untouched; the tool downloads new copies.

What a watermark won't do

A visible mark discourages casual reuse, but a determined editor can still paint over it, especially a single corner mark. Also note that exported copies don't carry over the original's EXIF metadata, including any copyright or author fields your camera wrote. That makes the visible mark the only credit in the file. For documents rather than photos, use Watermark PDF.

Step by step

  1. Open Watermark Image and choose your photos.
  2. Pick Text or Logo image, then enter your text or upload the logo.
  3. Set Size, Opacity and Rotation.
  4. Choose a Position, or switch on tiling and adjust Spacing.
  5. Download the image, or the ZIP for a batch.

FAQ

Are my settings saved for the next batch?

No. The settings reset when you reload the page. Note your favorite size, opacity and spacing values so you can repeat them quickly and keep your watermark consistent.

Why is the download button disabled in logo mode?

The tool needs a logo file before it can export. Choose one under Logo (PNG with transparency works best) and the button becomes active.

Can I add more photos after I've started?

Yes. Use + Add images to add more files to the current set, or Clear to start over with a new selection.
